Konnichi wa minna san!
Hello everyone and welcome to Japanese for Beginners. I am looking forward to introducing you to Japanese and sincerely hope that you continue your studies beyond this class. Let this class be a starting point for the lifelong process of learning the language. I will be using this blog for displaying online content that will be accessible to you beyond this class, as well as for posting short review quizzes after each class. I strongly recommend you utilize the resources on this blog. By all means, feel free to contribute comments and recommend new resources as well!
In the class, we will initially be learning about Japan as a country. I will be providing information on Japanese geography, history, major events and culture. Next, we will talk about the Japanese language in a general sense before delving right into learning some expressions that will be useful to use when speaking to Japanese people. After that, you will learn some hiragana - the traditional Japanese syllabary - although in the interests of time, we will not be able to learn hiragana in its entirety. My primary objective of this course is to prepare you for self-study beyond the classroom, particularly by recommending study methods and useful online Japanese study resources you can access at home. It is nice to meet you and I hope you enjoy the class.
